An interview with myself

I've decided to start an interview series here on my blog, I love finding out about other peoples experiences and hearing their stories so I thought it'd be a fun way to do so by interviewing those around me. The questions will vary, depending on how much life experience the person I'm interviewing has, but they'll roughly follow the same structure, I'll start off relatively simple and then go from there. I'm planning on recording conversations with the people I'm interviewing and then transcribing them into blog-posts. This is the first 'episode' as it were, so to start things off, (and to save spontaneously jumping onto someone to interview straight away) I thought I'd start with asking myself a few questions. Now, I can't really record a conversation with myself (as entertaining as that would be) so this blog post will possibly be the most formal out of them all, the others will take a more conversational approach as I hope to do them in person too!

Hope you enjoy this series, let me know what you think x

The Interview

What is your favourite film and why?

🔵 A Single Man - Tom Ford. It's a really beautifully put together film exploring mental health and homosexuality. Close contenders: Stuck In Love, Mamma Mia and Walking on Sunshine.

What is your favourite childhood memory?

🔵 Off the top of my head I can't really think of anything that really stands out, I've been on loads of family holidays which I've always fondly looked back on, I think if I had to pick something I'd say holidays in Mallorca. I really value spending time with family and those holidays were always my favourite ones. I also have really fond memories from school, playing kiss chase, having sleepovers and being able to 'play out' past 6pm - if I was lucky.

What is something you did as a child that you wish you did more of now?

🔵 Shows. Whether that's dance shows or school musical productions, I wish I still did those sorts of things, the friendships you make during the non-stop rehearsals and then the feeling after you've put on a show is something I really miss.

What's been your favourite age so far?

🔵 Favourite age has to be 16, despite it being the year of GCSE's, it was also the year of my first boyfriend and first music festival/holiday with friends.

What age do you feel right now and why?

🔵 To be honest I'd say I probably feel my age, maybe a bit younger because I didn't long turn 20 but then again there are times when I feel extremely middle-aged due to my interests and lifestyle...

What was your first job?

🔵 Waitressing at a cafe in my hometown, I worked either Saturdays or Sundays from the age of 16 till 18.

Why did you choose your university course?

🔵 I chose film because of my love for editing and making videos, I've never really been a film buff and if you ask me if I've seen a particular film, chances are I probably haven't...but I knew I wanted to go into something creative and at the time editing was one of my most enjoyed hobbies. I chose Falmouth because the film course they offered suited how I wanted to work (no exams, coursework based with good ratios of theory/practice) and because I absolutely fell in love with the place when I visited.

What's one thing you wish you knew how to do?

🔵 I actually have two answers for this question, both of them being languages. I wish I knew how to Sign and I wish I could speak Spanish fluently (both of which are completely accomplishable and things that I want to achieve in my life).

What are you most proud of?

🔵 There are a few things that come to mind with this question, specifically film related, I'm proud of the award I received in 2016 for a short film I submitted to a film festival and I'm proud of the promotional videos I've made for a company. Non-film related, I'm proud of my singing experiences, my old singing group performed at the Birmingham Symphony Hall which was quite something and I'm also proud of my determination with things, if I'm struggling with something, I always get back up (most of the time...).

When have you felt the lowest in life?

🔵 During my first year of university, that was definitely the lowest I've ever felt (and if you want to read more about it I did a blog post a while back #cheekyplug).

When have you felt the happiest in life?

🔵 Like my childhood answer, there isn't really one instance that particularly sticks out to me. I've been extremely lucky in that I've had a really happy life so far and I've only felt particularly low, as I've said, during my first year at uni and even that had it's good points. The happiest I've felt is probably collectively when I'm surrounded by friends or family or when I've been travelling, those are all happy memories. Although thinking about it now, my first music festival in Belgium, to this day, is probably the happiest I've ever been.

What's the most romantic thing you've done/received in your life?

🔵 Now when I wrote these questions I didn't actually have myself in mind for answering them, I can't say I've had much experience in romantic things but going off my previous relationship I'd say the most romantic experience was when I was asked out. My ex-boyfriend came to my house with a bunch of roses, a shoebox full of things I liked and a letter asking me to be his girlfriend.

Biggest Regret?

🔵 Having too much gin at an ABBA party last year, didn't end well.

If you had a chance to do-over in life what would you do differently?

🔵 Again a question I hadn't intended asking myself due to my lack of life experience but I'd probably change how I went about my first year of university, although having said that, I've learnt so much through what I went through that I'm not even sure I would. I'd maybe take a different subject route or not give up on things like gymnastics.

What's one thing you look forward to in the future?

🔵 I added this question to the end because I don't want to end the interview focusing on something I'd change, one thing I look forward to in the future is simply seeing where I end up in life, what my career is, what my family will become (all of those things you don't know the answers to). I came across a quote a few weeks ago which I thought resonated with this question (this is your in-coming cringey quote precaution):

"I spend so much time thinking about the next part of my life without realising that I'm right in the middle of what I used to look forward to."

I have no idea who wrote this, I just really like this quote. I think a lot about the future, what job I'll end up in, where I'll be living etc without appreciating the fact I'm right in the middle of my University degree, University being something I was extremely excited about during Sixth Form. Guess it's just a reminder to appreciate what you have in the present because it's so easy to forget.

And on that note, that concludes my first blog post of this series. I'm really looking forward to asking these questions to people close to me, I think it will be really interesting and I'm excited to find out what everyone has to say. If you have any questions you think would be particularly good to ask, let me know and I might add some in.

Thanks for taking the time to read this if you did and I'll be back soon with answers from someone I promise isn't me 🙃
