Not only is today my university deadline day, it's also my 20th Birthday! Slightly surreal to say I'm now into my twenties considering I always used to think 20 year olds had it all figured out...
Anyway, as I'm writing this in the midst of my deadline, I wanted to keep it relatively short (but also fun) so here are 20 facts about me (that you might not know) to celebrate my 20th Birthday!
20 Facts About Me:
1. Possibly the most obvious thing about me is my height - I stand at only 5ft tall (thanks mum and dad 🙃) and it's something that used to really bother me - now I just accept that I'll always look like a 12 year old from behind...
2. I have a god-awful sense of humour (well, I think it's great) - I feel I'm very much known for my shitty puns and awful jokes, people complain but I know they'd miss them if I stopped.
3. I really value time spent with family and friends - I'm extremely close to my family and consider my parents my best friends (soz bro but you're not quite there yet, maybe it's all the farting, who knows 🤷♀️). I also have an incredible bunch of pals, I'm very lucky to be surrounded by such cool/inspirational people who really support each other so thanks for that guys 💛
4. I study Film at Falmouth University in Cornwall - I love editing and surprisingly really enjoy writing essays about representations in film (specifically related to gender, sexuality and the psychology behind it).
5. I share a love for prog rock/stadium rock music with my Dad - I absolutely love artist Steven Wilson and my fav stadium rock song is Hold The Line - Toto (although Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams is in very close second). Favourite Spotify playlist: 'Air Punch'.
6. I have a sweet tooth - every savoury meal/snack has to be followed by something sweet 🤷♀️
7. Music is extremely important to me - my family are very music-orientated and I've grown up singing and playing the piano (although admittedly I probably couldn't play anything now whoops).
8. I absolutely love editing videos - although that probably doesn't come as a surprise to you, I've always loved filming my experiences and making them into little edits, I'm a very nostalgic person so I really love having videos that represent my memories.
9. I love playing xbox - thanks to my brother I used to play Minecraft and GTA nightly (although unfortunately not anymore because I'm away at uni most of the time - without an xbox ☹).
10. I've had a silly crush on Pierce Brosnan for a VERY long time - I honestly don't know where it came from, I think the first time I was introduced to him was through playing 007 Nightfire on the ps2 followed by watching Die Another Day - oh and Mamma Mia of course.
11. I'm a middle-aged woman at heart - to be honest this one should probably be higher up in my list, I think early nights are seriously underrated, I love long walks and a night in with a cup of peppermint tea is my idea of fun...
12. Breakfast is my favourite time of the day - I love elongating my mornings by having a big breakfast followed by a coffee in bed - hence why I wake up SO early before my 9am lectures at Uni so I don't miss out on that.
13. I'm either wearing pyjamas or gym gear - there's very rarely an in-between (although I do like to make an effort occasionally), I've just always put comfort/practicality first (Dad will disagree about the practicality part I'm sure, but I'm not talking about coats in the winter right now...).
14. I love to dance - I'm not necessarily any good at it but most evenings at home I like to dance around the kitchen to very loud music.
15. Favourite genre of film is Romance/Drama - I love a good sob story and cry regularly at the cinema (even if the film isn't sad), although I've found I cry less at films since studying it at university - maybe I've become desensitised?
16. I love the gym - another fact that won't come as a surprise, I really enjoy hypertrophy training. Building muscle in the gym is an extremely exciting concept to me, it makes me feel strong and also means more food = no brainer to me 🤷♀️
17. My favourite place in the world (that I've been to so far) is Pollença, Mallorca - growing up my family regularly went to Pollença, it's become a really familiar place and no doubt one of my favourites to visit. I've definitely thought once or twice about spending a long period of time away in Spain in order to learn the language more - but, um, Brexit.
18. My favourite film is A Single Man - Tom Ford - I think the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, the colour grading is really clever and it's just a really raw/beautiful story based on mental health. Although...I do have a massive soft spot for Mamma Mia and quite tragically Walking On Sunshine (I do NOT recommend Walking On Sunshine if you're looking for a film scholars opinion).
19. I've always had a real interest in Psychology and if I hadn't studied Film at uni I would have probably taken that route, although I've really enjoyed how flexible my course is and I've been able to explore psychological aspects through film which has been super interesting!
20. I want to start a YouTube - my 20th fact is also a challenge for my twenties, I've always loved editing videos and I'm constantly watching videos on YouTube. Considering I'm more than half-way through a degree that has enhanced my knowledge in editing, I really want to put that to use and create a YouTube. As well as it being something I know I'll really enjoy doing, I want to help others and create useful content!
So there are my 20 facts for my 20th Birthday, who knows what my twenties will hold but there's no doubt I'm excited about it. Hope everyone has a lovely Easter Holiday and I'll be posting regularly again now that my uni deadline is through!
Hope you enjoyed this post and let me know if there are any posts you want to see - or even maybe YouTube content 👀
Thanks again for all of the support, see you very soon!
